SamSchool’s TJ Test Prep Workshop 2016

For the 7th year in a row, SamSchool offers TJ Test Prep Workshop 2016 to help students prepare well for the TJ Test. This workshop will be an effective and ideal way to spend the Thanksgiving weekend to learn valuable techniques and strategies to solve various types of problems in math and verbal sections in under 60 seconds, and also review & practice important exercises for TJ Test under professional guidance.

This workshop will especially be useful for students —

— who have not taken any professional test prep till now for TJ Test

— who have not acquired adequate skills, techniques and confidence from other courses

— and who will not have professional guidance and material to practice during Thanksgiving weekend.

Workshop Objectives:

(1) We’ll review important math topics from number theory to geometry by solving hundreds of TJ-style problems. Valuable techniques will be discussed to solve each type of problem in 60 seconds.

(2) We’ll discuss various types of questions – with numerous examples – in logical reasoning, scrambled paragraphs and reading paragraphs and teach the participants how to solve each type of problem in 60 seconds.

(3) We’ll teach SamSchool’s exclusive strategies to complete the TJ Test successfully in 2 hours and improve overall score.

(4) We’ll also discuss result-oriented techniques to write impressive essays.

The participants will also solve several problems during this highly interactive workshop.

Workshop Schedule:

November 25 (Friday) – 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

November 26 (Saturday) – 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

November 27 (Sunday) – 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The students will also receive do-at-home worksheets on all days of the workshop.

– 100 important math questions for TJ Test along with effective, time-saving strategies for the test.

– Strategies and exercises for scrambled-paragraphs and logical-reasoning questions with over 100 unpublished exercises.

Exclusive sessions on “Reading Comprehension Strategies” and “Effective Essay Writing Strategies” with several examples.

Course Material:

– 300+ math exercises in TJ-test-style.

– 50+ scrambled paragraphs.

– 50+ logical reasoning exercises.

– 6 reading comprehension assignments.

– Essay prompts and examples.

– 2 Mini Practice Tests.

– BONUS: One full-length practice test.

(These unpublished exercises and tests are successfully used by SamSchool Learning Centers in New York for our well-known SHSAT Test Prep Courses.)

Workshop Coordinator

The workshop will be coordinated by Mr.Shiv Venkatram, Author of SHSAT / TJHSST Practice Tests, who is also a favorite SHSAT Specialist in New York. Mr.Shiv Venkatram is the Program Director of SamSchool’s SHSAT Courses in New York. Over 100 of his students have bagged admissions in New York Specialized High Schools.

Students must be currently in their 8th grade to participate in this workshop. Please DO NOT register 7th grade students!

TJ Workshop — Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the objective of TJ Workshop?

The primary objective of this workshop is to review math, logical reasoning and scrambled paragraphs under professional guidance during Thanksgiving weekend.

What exactly is done during the workshop?

In every session, the instructor will use worksheets with exercises in math, logical reasoning and scrambled paragraphs to teach and demonstrate how to solve typical TJ-style problems and review relevant topics. Participants will also learn useful techniques and strategies to solve a variety of exercises.

How many students participate in the workshop?

40 to 50 students.

How many instructors will be there?

Just one!

Would there be individual attention to students?

In order to achieve best results during this workshop-style program, the instructor will discuss and illustrate techniques and strategies to solve a variety of problems with a well-planned agenda and worksheets. SamSchool uses highly successful teaching methods not only to motivate the students to participate and interact, but also challenge them. Dozens of problems will be discussed in each session and the students will receive extensive exercises to do at home.

What kind of course materials will be used in the workshop?

The course material for the workshop includes unpublished exercises and tests that are used in SamSchool’s successful SHSAT courses in New York city.

However, SamSchool is a New York-based institution and the only program we offer for TJ Test prep in Virginia is this 3-day workshop. Therefore, we neither follow up with the participants nor take any credit if participants get TJ admission!

There are no breaks during the workshop. Students may bring light snacks and water. (The hotel hall has a water station.)

Policies and Protocols @ SamSchool Workshops:

Parents must come in to the venue and sign the admission form with student info and release form on the first day of the workshop.

Parents may drop off students 15 minutes before the workshop and pick up within 10 minutes of the workshop closing time.

We’ll provide all necessary courseware for the program, including filler paper. Students must bring their own pencils and erasers. Parents or others are NOT allowed to stay in the workshop or in the hotel lobby during the workshop. No exceptions, please.

All students must wear proper and decent dress. They must maintain silence during the workshop – except to ask or answer questions. Students who disturb the program will be asked to leave. No exceptions.

No food or drinks are allowed during the workshop! The hotel provides water, but the students may bring water, but nothing else, please. This is the policy of the hotel.

No gums, iPods or music devices. Cell phones cannot be used during the program.

This is a group program, led by an instructor. Individual clarifications of students, other than the topic of discussion, may not be entertained during the workshop. Such questions may be asked after the program. Also, make-up time / sessions are not possible if a student comes late or misses any part of the workshop.

The instructor may seat students as necessary for the good functioning of the workshop.

All course materials are copyrighted and cannot be reproduced or distributed in any way. Any violators will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

This workshop has been designed to help students who will be taking TJ Test this year! Therefore, please avoid registering 7th / 6th grade students for this workshop.

Cancellation policy:

Cancellation & Refunds (Workshop fee): Full 100% refund will be given if a workshop registration is cancelled before 6 p.m. on November 15, 2016 (Tuesday). 50% refund will be given if a workshop registration is cancelled before 6 p.m. on November 21, 2016 (Monday). No refund will be given if a workshop registration is cancelled after the above deadlines. No refund (partial or full) will be given if a student is unable to attend the workshop (any day / days) for any reason. Eligible refunds will be credited to the same credit/debit card account within 15 days. Please call (212) 470 7110 to cancel registration.
